Pre-Application Review Service

The Department of Biostatistics at the University of Washington is strongly committed to diversity, equity, and inclusion. To this end, during the academic year 2023-2024, we are launching the pre-application review service (PARS) initiative to provide support and mentorship to PhD applicants. We particularly welcome applicants from historically marginalized groups, including but not limited to racial and ethnic minorities, women, first-generation students, indigenous students, LGBTQIA+ students, students with disabilities, and students from low-income families.

How the Review Service Works

Current Biostatistics PhD students will review and provide feedback on a prospective applicant's resume or curriculum vitae (CV), personal statement and statement of purpose.

The process is open to students who are applying to the PhD program in the University of Washington Department of Biostatistics.

We intend to offer feedback to as many applicants as possible but the review service is subject to availability of reviewers. In the case of high demand, we will prioritize applicants on a first-come, first-served basis. If you are a prospective PhD student and would like to participate in PARS, you may submit your complete first draft application materials through our submission form on this page.

How to Submit

Submit your complete first draft of application materials to our PARS online form.  Submission must be received no later than November 22, 2023 PDT.

Review Process

PARS volunteers aim to respond within a couple of weeks of submission, and by November 28, 2023 (11:59 pm PST) at the latest. Submitting to PARS does not guarantee feedback, as we may close this form early if volunteer feedback capacity is reached. Applicants will be notified if the feedback capacity is reached.

Terms

Submitting materials to PARS does not guarantee admission to the UW Biostatistics PhD program. The review process is entirely separate from the admission process. Participation in PARS or information submitted to the program will not be shared with the admissions committee or faculty. The PARS program will be evaluated using aggregated, anonymized data; individual responses will not be used.

If you have any questions or problems with the form, you may contact biostgp@uw.edu.
